Valentine Tutorial

Hey friends!  I know that 2011 isn't officially over for a few more days, but I wanted to share a fun tutorial with you for making Valentines! Just think how ahead of the game you will be if you have all your Valentine's created in January!  Okay, well that could be a stretch --- but still this is a fun technique that could be used for a variety of creations!

Step #1 - Spritz manila tag with mist and ink around the edges:

Step #2 - Cut patterned paper and kraft paper into rectangles with kraft paper being 1/4 inch larger on all sides.  Ink around edges, adhere together and set aside:

Step #3 - Using my stamp collection, I picked out about 15 stamps that had the LOVE theme.  If they still have the envelope attached, soak them in water for 30 seconds and place upside down on a paper towel.  This will loosen the glue and you should be able to remove paper.  When they are dry adhere them to a heart shaped piece of chipboard.  Turn over, trim off excess, ink all edges and straight stitch around the edge.

Step #4 - Using a scalloped border punch, punch out 2-3 long strips of scallops.  Clip from the non-scalloped side almost all the way through to the other side as shown in the picture.  This will allow you to bend the scallops around the heart and create the edging.

Step #5 - Adhere scallops to heart.

Step #6 - Distress all edges of heart with Distress Ink.

Step #7 - Assemble all pieces as shown below, add ribbon and bling if desired!

Ahhh....Pinterest

I may have a slight Pinterest Addiction.  Just a slight one.  I have so many fun things pinned that I want to do with my house, that I could never have enough time.  So many projects, so little time.  Truly.

This is why I get all my Christmas stuff done by the 3rd week of December.  The last week, I unwind, create and just have fun.  This helps me to relax an enjoy the holiday.  It really helps...David always says that I am adding more stress trying to get my projects done on a deadline --- nah, I thrive on deadlines!  I do my best work on deadlines.  That is why I love to work on teams -- the deadlines keep my mojo flowing.

Anyway - thought I'd share a quick peek of some projects we have worked on this week.

Made a few of these wind bottle covers from old sweater sleeves.  This one turned out to be much harder than it looks!  I think the key for the future is to use a cotton fabric for the bottom round piece and not another piece of the sweater!  Still love how they look!

The pack of tea towels next to them was also a quick & easy Pinterest project.  These turned out really cute and I have made some really great sets for gifts!

Next, a big THANK YOU to Austin, Chase & Luke for helping me at Home Depot, cutting all the wood, painting all the wood, and just generally helping me get these ready!  Cut all the vinyl on my Silhouette and presto -- quick & easy!  I want to keep them all - but I am going to give them as gifts to the folks that come over to visit on Christmas this year!

We have all attended multiple Christmas events in our fancy outfits:

I'm a sweatshirt and jeans kind of girl - rarely wear makeup, jewelry or even style my hair.  I'm very low-maintence that way.  So, it is very blog worthy that this is the 3rd day in a row that I have gotten dressed up and put my makeup on! The Christmas season will do that to me - so many fun thngs to do that reqire a little extra effort besides jeans and hoodies!  So, here it is .... documentation that I do dress up once in a while - even if that just means adding a sweater and boots to my comfy jeans!

Notice Anything Different?

I finally updated my blog header!  Strange how so much has changed in 2 years yet so much has stayed the same.  Does that make any sense at all?  Not only is everyone 2 years older, but there is so many changes that you can't see.
-Jordan & Jesse are engaged
-Mike & Sarah are expecting
-Emma is running Tommy & Angie ragged
-Travis is single
-Austin is driving
-Chase has no more braces
-Luke is officially in middle school
-Cooper is still the best dog ever...

Christmas Inspiration!

Ahhh....don't miss this! Simple Stories had some amazing Christmas inspiration on their blog this week and today you can download all of them in a PDF file!  In addition, you can leave a comment for your own chance to win a 25 Days of Christmas Collection Kit!

Blog Post

Gift Cards are such an easy thing to give to those hard to shop for people on my Christmas list, but I always feel slightly guilty at just how easy it is.  My solution? Create a fun card to send them in, so the receiver knows that they are special!  Here are a few of the cards that I created this year:

The gift card will slip right inside that pocket I created and there is plenty of room to write a note to let them know just how much I love them!

Visit the Simple Stories blog for your chance to win the 25 Days of Christmas Collection Kit!

JUNK DRAWER

The new December Kit from Dixie Pieces is another home run!  This one won't be around long, I guarantee it!  As you can guess by the title, it is a very eclectic kit full of miscellaneous goodies, not usually my style, but I had so much fun with this one.  Love that working with kits stretches me to try new things!

Here are my designs this month:

Remember - you can find all the fabulous Design team inspiration in the gallery!  This kit is up for sale right now - be sure to pick yours up early this month!

Weekend Retreat Wrap Up!

Are you tired of me yet?  Well, this should do it for a little while anyway.  I have a few more to share, but need to wait till next week for those!  Here is a sneak though:

Yep, that is my adorable puppy dog, Cooper, and some yummy SIMPLE STORIES papers!  Check back next week to get a better look at those layouts!

These last two layouts are just because - just because I loved the photos and have been waiting to scrap them!  Remember that fun trip we took last summer to visit IRENE, the tugboat?  Here are a few of my favorite shots from that day teamed up with the bright and sunny BEACH BUM line from Fancy Pants!

And these shots I have had since way back in May 2010  - ahhhh, isn't she adorable? Just like this SIDEWALK Collection from October Afternoon!

Weekend Retreat Take 3!

These three layouts were created while playing one of our retreat games - BOSSY SCRAPPER.  Our version of the game goes like this:
Everyone who is playing wrtes one thing on a scrap of paper --- one thing that yu can use or do to a scrapbook page.  Then all the items are read outloud and everyone's layouts have to have all the items on them.  So for instance, this layout had the following requirements:

stickles
twine
tulle
stamp
journaling card
the word love
hand journaling
washi tape
6 patterned papers
punched edge
rub on
and mini letters
I love this game!  Totally makes you think outside the box and helps use up all the things in your stash that you have forgotten about!  This next layout is my favorite of the weekend!  It was funny that I had chosen this photo of my friend Lynne -- because she is a RANGER junkie and that was one of the requirements of the layout!

    Weekend Retreat Take 2!

These next 3 cards I created using random lime green and red scraps to match the fun felt embellishments I had in my stash from Pebbles:

My goal this weekend was to use up random embellishments that I have had laying around forever.  So I also used these pink felt embellishments from Pebbles too:

These are some fun photos from an old retreat - way back in 2008.  Thanks to Robyn for sharing he photos with me!

    Another Relaxing Weekend Retreat!

Heading out of town is always so much work:  pack this, plan that, organize everything... almost too much to do.  I said ALMOST.  Once I get there and get those first few hugs from my friends - it is all worth it.  Even if I had to leave early this year, it didn't matter.  All that chattin', laughin' and scrappin' is just good for the soul!

Over the next few days, I will be sharing all the goodies I scrapped.  Hope you are inspired!

These first 2 layouts and the card were created with the MAGIC OF OZ Collection from Graphic 45. I'm not a Halloween fan, but I am a Wizard of Oz fan!

See you tomorrow with some more layouts!

    Soccer recap and more!

Ahhh...I love having all these fun pictures of Emma to scrap with!  These photos were from the first day they got here straight from the airport.  It was already getting late, but it was warm outside.  She took one look at that pool and jumped right in!  It was so fun to see her smile and laugh - so great to just be able to watch her have a good time!

These papers are from the fabulous October Afternoon line, SIDEWALKS.  I knew when I saw those adorable duck stickers what my title would be!  If you are local to the Seattle area, you can find this line at THE URBAN SCRAPBOOKER in Edmonds!  Brooke has some fun products in the store!

    Soccer Update:

Jordan and the Northwest University Women's Soccer Team are still going strong!  They finished up the regular season at home for Senior Day.  They are in the playoffs but having that last game at home was so emotional - for me.  LOL!  You all know that she has been playing soccer for 16 years and I just can't wrap my head around the end of this journey.  It is such a joy to watch her out there doing what she loves and doing it so well.  I know there will be so much more soccer in her life whether it's playing for fun or coaching -- and I can't wait!  Here are some photos of that last home game of the year:

    The Seniors:

    The Award:

     The Hug:

and a couple of game shots:

They won that game against Southern Oregon 1-0 in dramatic fashion as always! So that put them in the first round of playoffs which were last Saturday.  Of course they were in Ashland, Oregon - 8 hours away from home.  But, we couldn't bring ourselves to miss the game, so we packed up the car and headed out at 5am!  Game time was bitter cold, and playing away on their home field was definitely a disadvantage.  Check out the bench -- yeah, just a tiny bit cold!

The game was amazing and the girls came out and scored 2 goals in the first 15 minutes to help take the nervous energy away from the fans in the stands!  We had quite a crowd too - thankful for the cross country team that weather the chill to support the girls!

The girls held on to win the game 2-1 and advance to the next level of the playoffs - the championship game on Saturday against the 8th rated team in the US at this level - Concordia.  It's going to be a great game and means another road trip.  When every game could be her last, I just have to be there no matter what.  Here is the team after their win:

So much other fun stuff happening around here right now too... baseball has just started up, school is going great, couponing is still tons of fun, and the holidays are right around the corner.  Definitely  not ready for that!

    Happy Monday everyone!
