Hood Canal

Spent the weekend with Tami, Sherry, Kimmy & Erin over at Hood Canal and let me tell you there is nothing better than a girls weekend to renew my spirit!  These girls are supportive, hysterical, blunt, and talented.  What better combination could there be?  We can create together, laugh together and cry together.   On top of the company, the weather was amazing -- it was 70 plus degrees with a warm wind --- absolutely gorgeous!  I have tons of art to share with you --- I will have it up in the next day or two!

We even had an impromptu baby shower for Miss Erin who is due in October with her first baby!

When I got home, I was thrilled to see the new issue of Scrapbook News and Review had been published!  My buddy Andrea has some fun layouts in there this month and it was fun to see her art in print!  You can become a subscriber by heading over to the subscribe page!  In addition, the October Calls Deadline is coming up.  Make sure you hop on over the the Calls link and send in some of your creations!  I want to see ALL my scrappin' buddies in there!  Did you know if you send in some artwork and they accept it for the magazine you get the month free!

One last thing for you!  The winner of my Reminisce Signature Series Dimensional Stickers!  The package goes to...

Scrappin_in _AK!  Drop me an email with your snail mail address to theholmescrew@comcast.net!

Baby Fix!

I was thrilled to get the chance to take care of little Paige last night!  There is nothing better than having a baby in the house again!  She was so sweet and cuddly and she had everyone wrapped around her little finger by the time she left!

Ahhh.... Warm Fall Evenings & Baseball!

It's no surprise that the Holmes Crew loves baseball.  Whether it's t-ball, high school, college or the pros -- we are all about baseball.  We love the Mariner's --- whether they are winning or losing --- we love them.  Of course, it totally makes it easier if they are winning!  But, alas, they aren't and attending a Mariner's game isn't what it used to be.  The stands aren't full and the crowd isn't as loud -- but they still bring a smile to everyone in this house!  There is just something magical about being there in that big stadium that brings the joy back into life.  Just think about all those baseball players out there on the field and their childhood dreams to be a big league ball player.  They are all living those dreams --- real life proof that they do come true.  I know all my boys have dreamed that dream at least once in their life --- and a couple of them still dream it.  If I close my eyes, I can see one of them on the mound or at the plate.  How stinkin' cool would that be?  Okay --- so maybe it's the mom in this house that dreams that dream!

So this post is one big THANK YOU to my friend, Kim, who thought of us when she had 4 tickets to 2 different games and sent them our way!  We had a great couple of evenings in the fall air watching baseball and thinking of those dreams!

The first night, David took the boys:

The second night, David & I went with Travis & Michelle:

Did I mention how great our seats were?  Well, they were fantastic!  We were 3 rows from the field and everyone was real life size!  Ichiro was right in front of us and that was a real treat!

So, again, thanks to Kimmy for the special family treat!  It was even better when we found FREE parking both nights!  Whhooo Hooo!

I have to say that I'm a Glee fanatic!   Glee is one of our favorite shows around here and it's always good for some comic relief as well as the starter of some good family discussions on the ways of the world!  But, most of all, I love the music.  I am musically challenged and can't carry a tune or keep a beat, but I can appreciate those that can.  Never a week goes by that I don't love the music on the show -- no matter what genre it is, it's always fun.

So when it came time to develop an idea for the big fall contest over at Dixie Pieces, I knew my theme right away.  Join the Dixie Pieces Glee Club!  Of course combining music with scrapbooking has been done before but we are going to put our own twist on it and it's going to be fantastic!  Of course, it doesn't hurt that we have been given over $500 of wonderful prizes by fantastic manufacturer's like Imaginisce, Reminisce, Scrappin' Sports & More, Maya Road, Teresa Collins, Piggy Tales, PK Glitz, and more!  The official challenges get started on the 18th of September but the fun has already started.  You can get all signed up here on the forums and find out all the details here

I want you to come over and play with us -- sing with us, I mean!

Sign of Fall

Last night when the temps outside for hovering around 50 degrees and the rain was falling in buckets, we were cozy and warm inside enjoying our first blazing fire of the fall season.  It didn't take long for the pets to figure out where the cozy spot was:

And like the rest of us, the heat from the fireplace had them sound asleep within minutes!  Cooper was so out, that he didn't even know that Ethel was right behind him!  Ethel thought it was worth the risk to be cozy and warm.  I love a hot fire and I'm very thankful for the 2 cords of wood that is stacked outside promising to keep us warm through the winter.

On a different note, there is a bit of family drama happening around here and my buddy Sherry sent me this quote:

I can't control the waves, but I can learn to surf!

So that is my new motto --- it might even make it to vinyl and up onto my wall!  I also was reminded that obstacles, drama, and stress make us stronger --- I've decided that I'm strong enough and don't need any more opportunities to grow stronger!

Today over on the Design Team Blog at A Walk Down Memory Lane, I posted a little masking tutorial.   I wanted to share my layout here too:

Back to School!

Next week is our official back to school week but I have been working on school plans for a few days already.  I can honestly say that buying new supplies is still my absolute favorite part of back to school time!  Of course, these days parents are responsible for providing EVERYTHING you can even imagine.  As homeschoolers, we don't have to worry about those lists too much.  I do go to the office supply store and check out all their great back to school sales though!  Yesterday we got spiral notebooks for 5 cents each!  There was a limit of 3 per person, luckily I had all the boys with me!  We also got a package of notebook paper for a penny!  I know those sales are to get you in the door and that hopefully you will spend tons more, but we didn't!  We spent a whopping 98 cents and got 3 bags worth of stuff!  LOVE IT!

But, I digress...remember when you were in school and you received a new pack of crayons?  Not the mega pack with all the obscure colors, but the 8 or 10 pack of the basics? That was such a happy day in my life!  A new set of crayons held so many possibilities.  I was always drawn to the red, blue & yellow.  At the time, I didn't realize those were the PRIMARY colors -- the colors that make up all the other colors in this wonderful world.  I just loved them.  I still do.  Nothing makes me happier than working with the basics.

So my challenge today is all about the Primary colors.  If you head on over to My Sketch World and take a peak under the Challenge section, you will find out all about it!  I hope you will play along!

Here is my sample layout for you:

The brand new papers from Reminisce are perfect for my challenge!  Making the Grade is an amazing new product line that works for all ages, kindergarten through college!  I made a few composition books too:

The New Manufacturer of the Month!

While you are over at the store checking out the Graphic 45 --- check out all the other yummy stuff in the New Products section --- oh my!  All that CHA stuff is coming in and packing the store with amazing new inspiration!

A New Month - A New Sketch - A New Winner!

Welcome to September!  School is right around the corner for us and I for one am actually looking forward to having the days scheduled and planned again.  When May comes, I am ready for some freedom and spontaneity.  When September comes, I am ready to fill up my planner with stuff!  Love the way that works, just enough summer to make me crave it again the next year!

September brings another Imaginisce Sketch, this time by our fabulous designer Aida Haron!  Remember if you play along and create with this fabulous sketch, you can upload it to the Imaginisce Blog for a chance to win a prize!

Here is my take on the sketch:

Do you recognize that paper?  I think not, do you know why?  Well, it's absolutely brand new!  It's the Dino-Roar Collection from Imaginisce!  I knew I made Luke pose on that Dinosaur toy for a reason!  It's perfect!  Do you spy the fun embossing on there too?  I used the new Cuttlebug Embossing Folders that I rec'd as part of our Provocraft spotlight with Imaginisce!  They added so much fun and character to my page, I just loved working with them!

The embossing designs were absolutely perfect with the Dino-Roar paper --- so I used them some more on these cards:

I also have heard a rumor that you will soon find these designs in a kit designed by Provocraft & Imaginisce!  Keep following my blog and the details will come soon!

WAIT -- I almost forgot, time to pick the lucky winner of that Dominoe Cuttlebug Folder!  The lucky winner is number 21 - Jennifer Hansen!

Jennifer Hansen said...

I hadn't seen this folder yet, would love it!

Congratulations to Jennifer!
