The Big Night!

We had such a great time tonight. The graduation was awesome and it was so wonderful to share the experience with Jordan. There were 60 kids in the graduating class of EHRC.

Just to catch everyone up--we are a homeschooling family and have been members of the Homeschool Resource Center of our local School District. The school district provides us with classes and resources and in turn they get to count the kids in their numbers for state funding for the district. It is truly a win-win situation. THey even provide us with education funds that we can use for curriculum, lessons, supplies or additional classes. We were one of the original 20 families in the program over 11 years ago and have seen it grow to over 500 families! The district provides a fulltime teacher in every subject who then provides us with classes. The classes taught by the permanent teachers are free. This even includes multiple foreign language teachers. You can have your kids start taking a language class in kindergarten and contnue all the way through HS. Then there are over 60 other classes offered that are taught by private individuals on campass. These cost money, but that is what we use our curriculum funds for. Over the years, we have taken science, martial arts, sign language, drama, myhtology, romad culture, US Presidents, pottery and the list goes on and on. Basically, it is an awesome program.

Anyway, back to the graduation ceremony. It was so cool, the graduates go up one side of the stage and the parents go up the other. The parents are handed the diplomas by the Principal and the graduate gets a flower. You meet in the center of the stage and give your student the diploma. It was an amazing thing. I was nervous about walking up on stage in front of all the people, but as soon as I saw my daughter walking toward me --I forgot everything else and was just so proud of her. SHe is truly an amazing person and we are so proud of her. SHe has homeschooled all but one year of her education, and I can't tell you how it felt to see her graduate. I know she is the 3rd child I have homeschooled that has graduated, but she is the first that I feel was truly homeschooled her whole life. Definitely a feel good moment.

I will leave you with tons of pictures --- the first two are of us on the stage giving her her diploma:
