Some snow pics for you -

It's warming up and starting to fall off the trees and melt in the streets, but we are in for another storm tonight. Of course it warms up just in time to freeze so that tomorrow will be a nightmare on the roads. But, for now it's still fun! It was so great-there were four families outside and Joan & Jerry (the neighborhood grandparents) brought out hot chocolate for everyone. It is such a blessing to live in a neighborhood of friends and family. Pete, another neighbor, even drove Jordan to college this morning for me. I love this community.

So here are some pics for you---I took tons of pics that turned out to be on the wrong camera setting and they didn't turn out. Still got a few fun ones. I'm sure Debbie will have some for me from her camera. But for now-here you go:

Sneak Peek - February Kit at Dixie Pieces

Hey everyone--I have to tell you how terrific the February kit at Dixie Pieces is! I had so much fun with it--make sure you get over there first thing on February 1st, because I have a feeling this kit is going to go fast! Here is a layout I did with it---can't show you any more or I'd have to shoot you!

so in love - feb

So much fun!

Even more fun is coming up though! On February 15th, we are having a 24 hour crop over on the Dixie Pieces forum! There will be a new challenge every hour on the hour - some quick and easy and some a little more complicated! At the end of the crop, some great prizes will be awarded including a wonderful Dixie Pieces kit and some magazine supbscriptions for our favorite scrapbboking publications! There will be tons of fun and inspiration, so make plans now to come over and join us!

Finally - it's here.

SNOW that is. We woke up this morning to a couple of inches of fluffly white stuff. They have been promising us for what seems like forever and to top it off, the temperature hasn't been over 40 degrees in a month.

So waking up to a beautiful blanket of white is truly a blessing! Here was the view from my office at 7 am:

snow for blog

Now, for the catch 22. The public schools have closed for the day - but we are homeschoolers. I spend hours yesterday working on our schedule for the next 3 weeks. If I give them the day off, I will need to rework the whole thing. That is not going to happen. So, needless to say, my boys are a little frustrated with me. However, I just reminded them, that come June when all the neighbors are in class until the 22nd, we will be finishing on June 1st! That got them going. Chase & Luke have already started with hopes of finishing very early in the day. It's only 7:30 so they should be done by noon. I took a few things off their assignment list that weren't necessary to the plan as a whole. Compromise is good.

Hey - it's Sunday!

It's been a long, fun week for me. I just finished up with a week long crop over at the Scrap-Diner. We just had a chat and gave away some great participation prizes! It was tons of fun.

But now back to reality--you know where I only get to crop a few hours a week. Back to normal. But, that can be good too! I like normal. It's comforting. Do you know what I mean? Normal and predictable. Well, that is until the construction crew shows up tomorrow. I had a friend remind me that I hadn't really explained just what the construction project was. SO here goes:

We are adding about 750 square feet to our house in the way of a rec-room, entry way, and loft. An art loft! So there will be new roof trusses and everything. So far, we have the concrete foundation poured. It so cool to see where the room will be. Really makes it a reality!

So, it's been pretty mellow around here, can't say that anything noteworthy has happened in the last few days. The biggest surprise came today when Austin told us he doesn't think he wants to play baseball this year. We will be discussing that in full a little later tonight! Needless to say, we were a little shocked.

Jordan's final soccer season starts up next week - it's fun to have a whole different outlook than I've had before. No stress, no pressure, just fun. Since she is already committed to play for Northwest University, there is nothing but fun ahead for her final season. Now, I just pray that there will be no injuries!

Have a great week everyone!

Thankful Thursday!

Today I am thankful for 3 days of sunshine in the middle of winter. By now, I am usually suffering from a case of the winter blues. But the last three days of sunshine have really helped me to combat that. If I close my eyes with the sun beating in through my window, I can feel the warmth on my face and dream about summer! The extra spike of Vitamin D helps too! Thank You Lord for a little sunshine---very cold sunshine, but sunshine nonetheless!

I am getting so excited to go to CHA, the Craft and Hobby Association Convention. I have begun to see new product peeks and they all look fabulous! Just the thought of being surrounded by all that glorious product and all those wonderful designers puts a smile on my face. Spending a few days with my friend Wendy helps too!

Speaking of Wendy--have you ever met someone and felt like you are long lost friends? That is how it is with me & Wendy. I feel like I have known her for years, when in reality I met her last summer and spent only 3 days with her on and off. We are just kindered spirits with easy going personalities and a love for scrapbooking product! I can't wait to see her!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Foundation walls were poured today!

It's a beautiful day!

It's gorgeous outside today, cold but gorgeous. There is not a cloud in the sky and if you are in your car with the heat on and the sun shining down on your face - you can almost image that it's summer in the Northwest! It is a brisk 28 degrees out though! The foundation crew showed up today and finished the frame so now we are waiting on the inspector so that they can pour the concrete.

Here is a pic:

Looks like they may pour on Friday! WHoo Hooo. It is so exciting to see progress every day!

Mike, our neighbor, was cleaning out his garage the other day and brought over 8 hoola hoops! The kids took them into the street with their friends and had contests! It was so cool to see them playing with something from my generation! Something not electronic! Something that was just plain physical fun!

This weekend I spent a lot of time at my computer and at my scrap desk. My cat, ETHEL, loves it when I hang out there. Here she is just hanging out with me - she is a stress reducer! I love her.

I hope everyone has a great day---I am still working on reducing my stress, keeping my focus, finding my joy, and learning humility.

Just a reminder that there are still 4 days of new challenges over at the DINER! You have till SUnday to post your layouts and link them back to the forums for a chance to win some awesome prizes! Check it out.

I'm loving the day off!

It's so nice to have a day off of school and work and to have everyone home and together! We have been checking out the construction project and enjoying the sunshine! It is cold but beautiful here today! I think it is 28 degrees, brrrrrrrrrr.

Just had a little meeting with the project manager of the construction project. It was a happy meeting, he told us in order to make the foundation meet up to the old one, they are having to make the room an extra foot wide! No problem on my end! Then the new truss design came in and with the studs in the right place the loft will also gain space. Two feet on one side!!! So overnight our project gained 50 square feet! Gotta love that!

Went to Costco today and picked up a new printer/scanner combo for my mom, it is so cool! We are heading over there soon to set it all up for her and to teach her how to order pics from Costco. She is in the big time now - totally computer savvy! Pretty soon, I'll have her scrapping!

Here are two more layouts for you:

Wow - what a day!

I have a love hate relationship with days like this. I love that I get so much accomplished but I hate that it is non-stop and I feel like I am on overdrive. I am still working off my list of things I need to do today, blogging is on my list.

So, I am taking a moment of silence........................whew! A few deep breaths and a little prayer and I feel better already! That is truly the first time I have sat still all day.

Started out this morning - I had to have Austin to the doctor at 8:30am. His sinus infection wasn't even touched by the 14 day antibiotic that they gave him - and I waited another 2 weeks to see if it would just run it's course. But, to no avail, so I took him in today. They gave him a sinus x-ray just to be sure. What we found out is that he has very small sinuses, strange huh? But, that didn't have anything to do with his infection, which was still there and flaming. So now he is on another antibiotic and a nasal spray. I love Dr. Macon--he was so funny today-he had Austin's x-rays on the computer and he was zooming in so the boys could "go up Austin's nose"! They were laughing hysterically. Love good doctors. Thankful for him today.

But that made us late for school so we tried to hurry - and that set the mood for the whole day!

So here I am - with my to do list almost finished! Being in hurry up mode is very productive. Not healthy but productive. Once in a while it works for me!

I'll leave you with this pic of Chase - I mean ELVIS!

I'm a daily blogger???? We'll see!

Daily blogging—I’ve been challenged. I’m not sure if I can do it, but I’m willing to give it a shot! What’s on my mind today? Hmmmmmm……

Humility---that’s what comes to mind. I am not a humble person and I was very convicted of that fact yesterday. I listened to an awesome teaching from a pastor who claims this is his biggest sin and struggle. I can understand why. We are taught from an early age to be self-sufficient. It is not easy to let go of the knowledge that you can do it all by yourself. But, we can’t. I can’t. I set myself up for trouble when I think that I can. When I think that I don’t need the Lord’s help. When I think that I am right and everyone else is wrong. When I can’t laugh at myself. I need to know that it’s okay to make mistakes. I need to admit them. I need to laugh at them. Then, I need to ask for help. I need to lean on the one person who can give me that help. The Lord. Saying it is so easy. Acting upon it is so hard. I understand that being humble is a journey. I plan on taking one step at a time. Just keep moving toward it. Hopefully, it’s not 2 steps forward and three steps back. But, if it is, I hope that I can see those mistakes, repent and move on.

Humility is the opposite of pride. Not that we can’t have pride in ourselves and our abilities, but we need to be able to focus that pride on the one that deserves it, the one that gave those strengths to us, the Lord.

So my challenge to you today is to take a step toward humility. The world would be such a better place if everyone just took one-step closer everyday.

If you want to hear a great message, check out: http://www.marshillchurch.org/sermonseries/philippians/week_05.aspx
You can even upload via itunes. Awesome message. Enjoy!

That's my word for the day - not that I have a new word everyday, but that word hits the spot for me today. I was able to visit with my girlfriends last night for a few hours and I am feeling a renewed sense of joy! They are so awesome and uplifting. We all have our own struggles and things going on in our lives, but it seems when we get together there is nothing but pure joy. I love that. We can share our struggles and still leave feeling that life is good. Just want you girls to know - that I need you and I am so encouraged by all of you and the walk you lead in your life. Each of you has a unique gift and you all make me smile and feel happy to be your friend.

Okay-enough sappy stuff. :)

Well, maybe not quite. Any of you that have every been to my house know that I have the coolest picket fence in my dining room! That's right - it's inside in my dining room. I have always had a thing for picket fences but never lived in a home where one was practical. Our dining room has a huge picture window that looks out onto the front porch. I didn't want to cover it with curtains of any kind but I also wanted to limit the visability of the outside world just a little. Hence the picket fence.

I adore my fence. You all know that we are under construction and the thing that keeps getting in the way of my dreams of the remodel is that I will be losing the wall that holds my picket fence. It was really bumming me out and I couldn't think of a solution. But leave it up to David to come up with the perfect solution.

bed frame

This just makes me happy every time I walk in my bedroom. I love that man. He is so sweet. Isn't it cool????

One last picture - an update on the construction. We are ready for the foundation guy to arrive. But, he will not be here for another week. I wonder how perfect those ditches are going to be by the time he arrives? After all, I have 3 boys in the house and I keep finding them playing in them!!

house 1-13

Have a great Sunday! Hope you all have something that brings a smile to your face today!

Happy Hump Day!

Wednesday's always make me happy! I am usually still on track with my plans for the week but I can also look ahead to the weekend! Today is no different. School is going well, construction is on track and i just had a cup of coffee. Life is good. This weekend there are no major plans - those kinds of weekends just make me happy!

When we left the house this morning at 9am the construction crew wasn't here yet. But by the time we returned at noon, they had pulled all the asphalt up even what was under the huge dumpster! They are still here and have pulled out all 4 posts that held up the carport. It is amazing - there was like 10 feet of concrete holding each post in the ground. They pulled them out like they weighed nothing. My boys are having a very hard time focusing today. Everytime one of the machines starts up they run to the windows. I might just have to take up my neighbor on her offer to do school at her house!

Here is a picture of them trying to move the dumpster with their heavy equipment. He almost tipped over the bobcat. That thrilled my boys!

stage 2

So these guys are the excavators - getting everything up out of the ground, getting it ready for the cement guys to pour the foundation. This is really happening---starting to sink in. Without the carport there, you can really visualize how big the addition is going to be. Praise the Lord - I am so excited.

I also did another layout for the Scrap-Diner last night. I loved this picture of my Grandma with all her daughters. It was taken at Christmas and Grandma looks very happy. SHe is having such a hard time these days that we never take it for granted when we have her at a family function. What made me happiest this day, though, was that all four girls were together and had put aside their differences at least for this day. I love that. My prayer for them is that they can continue to work on their issues because you can not underestimate how important family is. They need each other - we need them and we need them all happy, healthy and together.

family photo

Give your family extra hugs today.

Prepare for fun!!

Join the the new DT over at the SCRAP-DINER for a fun weeklong crop! There will be challenges every day with opportunities to win some great prizes! We are planning for an awesome event - Don't miss out on the fun!

Sunday slowdown---

I had so many good intentions of what I was going to get accomplished today! But this cold has come back in full force and knocked me on my butt! I can't stop sneezing and sniffling and my nose feels like sand paper! I could be the poster child for Kleenex Tissue today. Of course, we don't have any! So, things happened in slow motion for me today.

The day started off in full speed. Up, showered and ready to go by 9 am. Pretty good for a weekend. Then I tuned in to Mars Hill Church online and listened to an online Bible lesson. I figured no one would want me to be sneezing all over them in the sanctuary today. I absolutely love listening to Pastor Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill. The lesson I listened to today was from Phillipeans on suffering and how to suffer well. Seems like a strange thing to say, suffer well, but man was he all over it. I had plans to scrap while I listened. Well, the Lord had other plans because I sat there in a trance while I listened, totally entralled. Check it out here: http://www.marshillchurch.org/sermonseries/philippians/week_03.aspx

After that, I was able to get all my layouts for the Scrapbook Oasis January Guest Design Team uploaded to their site. I had such a great time playing with all the fun Scenic Route product they sent me. For those of you that know me, you already know how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Scenic Route. So needless to say, I enjoyed the product they sent. Check out their site at www.scrapbook-oasis.com . They have a Guest Design Team contest monthly, plenty of great product in the store, a wonderful gallery and fun ladies in the forum. Definately a place to add to your favorites! Here are the layouts I did for their site this month:

close friends

lost in thought

family time copy

gift card holder

Not much happened after that! David has a severe muscle spasm in his shoulder blade and was unable to get around much without pain. So, he laid low. Chase had a couple of friends over for most of the day. They played on the xbox and had nerf wars in the living room. Jordan was in her room painting another masterpiece and Austin & Luke just kind of hung out all day. We ended up with Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner.

I love Sunday's --- cold and all.

Cool Change over at the Diner!

Good Morning! So far so good with my resolution to blog at least 3 times a week!

This month at the Scrap-Diner, the theme is "Cool Change". Do you remember that song by the Little River Band?

If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear water
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon, like a lover

Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change

Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change
Well I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales they are my brothers
There's lots of those friendly people
And they're showing me ways to go
And I never want to lose their inspiration

Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change

I've never been romantic
And sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
But let me breathe the air
Let me breathe the air...

Well I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales they are my brothers
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon, like a lover

Time for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change

I posted the first challenge of the month this morning---to scrap something that is missing in your life, good or bad. I went with good:

gray hair

Enjoy! Take the challenge yourself...Make your glass have full and make a list of the things in your life that are missing and you're happy about!

Feeling Better!

Still feeling coldish (is that a word?), but feeling much better than yesterday! We even went to Costco tonight and stayed under $80! We have a new budget for the new year and it hinges on coupon cutting and keeping our costco spending under control. So far so good! Okay, so it's only the first trip of the year, but we need the encouragement!

Did a couple of quick layouts last night. I love winter break. I have one/two more days to focus on scrapping before I need to turn my attention to homeschooling again! I am going to make the most of it! Then on Sunday, I need to plan the second semester classes at the resource center and write out the kid's school planners for the next few weeks. But until then------scrapping is my priority!

Here they are:

little rascals

This is my Thankful Journal for 2008 - I have 52 miscellaneous pieces of paper inside-one for each week of the year. The plan is to write in it at the end of every week and track what I am most thankful for at that time. I'll post as I go!

very thankful

Have a great night!

More Fun Design Team News!!!!

I am so excited that I get to continue my work for the SCRAP-DINER! WoooHooo!!!! Sher, the wonderful owner over at the Diner has asked me to stay on and continue to work with her and the Debutant Debs on the Design Team. Needless to say, I said YES! I can't believe my good fortune! She is such a great lady and has such a great store, I couldn't ask for a better assignment! In addition, this month she is having a great weeklong set of challenges to get you scrapping! Check out the Diner at www.scrap-diner.com and don't miss out on all the fun January 18-26th!

they're here....

The construction crew that is. They have started tearing into my carport and ripping off the siding and brick. It is so loud! I know it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not really. I am very thankful they are here and it has started. BUT---I feel crappy today. I have some kind of sinus head cold thing going on and it is miserable. Sore throat, burning eyes--well you know. So I am going to curl up on my comfy chair and watch the last season of 24. I will have to have the sound system rockin the house to overpower the noise the crew is making, but it will be worth it!

A couple of new layouts!

fall bounty

Happy New Year!

Another year - a new start - lots of plans!

We had a fun time last night playing BUNCO with the neighbors. They invited us over to play and we had never even heard of the game before. So we studied up, you know - read the rules online so we would know what we were doing. Well, it turns out nobody had ever played before and we were the experts! It was hysterical! Good times!

We also met with the contractor, the job site foreman, the project manager and the electrician yesterday. Finally, & I'm not laughing. They asked if I was excited to get started and I had to honestly tell them, I'd be excited when the first sledge hammer was thrown. In other words, I will believe it when I see it. It is hard to have faith and trust in someone who hurries you along so that they can start the first of December and then they don't start until the first of January! I am praying that that isn't a foreshadowing of what I will be expecting for the rest of the project. Anyway, dumpster is arriving first thing tomorrow and the excavator arrives on Friday. So, I guess we are underway. Here we go......

Here are my before pics of the house...

In addition, the new kit is ready over at Dixie Pieces for January! It is a wonderful snow themed kit! Lots of fun papers and pieces! They are doing such a great job putting their kits together. They even included sequins! Some of my favorite items were the Queen & Co. snowman trim, the sheer ribbon, and the shimmer cardstock! It was all so much fun! Here are a few of my layouts:

love keeps us warm

Now I don't normally scrap with purple - but this kit was yummy! The purple was such a perfect and unique snow color! I loved it! Check them out over at www.dixiepieces.com .
